Maple Syrup

This year we were fortunate enough to make it up to my parents for tapping season. Every year since I was little we have collected maple sap to make syrup. Since having kids I haven't made it back up there and was really excited to share this experience with Avery and Alia. The weather was great and Avery really loved helping grandpa.

Grandpa helped Avery walk through the whole process. First he had Avery drill the hole and insert the tap. He was so excited because the sap started running right away.

Once the buckets were filled we collected the sap and carried it out of the woods to the boiler.

After boiling it down for a day we finally were able to test it.

Mmmm, delicious.

Alia wasn't left out. She joined in on the collection too.

She had fun at the grandparents. They had lots of fun toys.

The kids were not that upset when we went to feed the ducks and they were not there. They just ate the bread instead.

Grandma and grandpa really know how to spoil our kids. Grandma got Alia a cute dress.

Grandpa took Avery out and let him drive the four wheeler.

Finally, the funniest part of the whole trip was this.

Avery has never had a gun before but he found this in the toy bin there. He literally never took it off. We had to take it off of him for bath and bed but it was on him until we got in the car to leave. The funniest point was when he was getting ready for his bath. He was standing buck naked with only his holster on thinking about if he could wear it into the bath.

We had an amazing weekend and can't wait to get back up there this summer.
