A Grand View

When I was in high school I asked my grandpa where he'd like to go, if he could go anywhere. His response was the Grand Canyon. Well, after more than 10 years, I was able to bring Grandpa to the Grand Canyon thanks to Scott's job. Once he saw the canyon he just kept saying, "awesome, awesome, awesome." The trip with him was an amazing one that I will forever remember.

I liked this picture, look how happy he is to be here.

Avery's highlight of the trip was watching this squirrel eat food that someone had thrown to it.

We stayed in one of the lodges right on the rim. This is a picture taken from our window.

This picture was taken at the Kolb Studio. I was struck by how appropriate the verse they chose was. The earth is full of Thy riches! What an awesome creation!

The perfect fall day

Alright, a chance to go canoeing this fall!

Avery had a blast watching the fuzz fly from the cat-tail. Thanks for the great seats Grandma and Grandpa- they worked great in the canoe.

Happy Birthday Cake!

For Avery, birthdays are all about the cake. When I told him it was my birthday, he yelled "yay, happy birthday cake!" Every year Scott and I try to come up with new cakes for our birthdays so I guess we think it's all about the cake as well.

Why wait for a taste until after the cake is done?

The cake was a mixture of a few different cakes. It had a great cream filling and a dark chocolate layer. The frosting was fluffy and delicious.

Of course the only place one can go to celebrate a birthday is Chuck E. Cheese. $7.50 in tokens and 2 hours later Avery left with a plastic ant. In addition to Chuck E. Cheese, we enjoyed a beautiful fall hike on a local lake.

The farmer finds a match

Lately I've been trying to work on matching with Avery but his attention to such learning is very limited. Today I disguised it with our imaginative play and he actually took the time to match the animals. We were playing with one of his favorite toys and I told him that the farmer needed help matching the animals to the pictures. The first time around I showed him where they went and the next time he helped me put them in the correct places. It was a simple matching activity with materials I already had. I also put pom pom balls in the sensory table with matching colored cups to sort them out with but he doesn't want to put them in the right places. He just loves filling the cups and dumping them out. I'll have to figure out a way to disguise this activity as well.

This picture has nothing to do with the post. I just wanted to post a picture to show you all how much he's growing up. He looks so old in this picture. Most of the time I can't get a good picture of him because he won't sit still but on this day he was dressed for church. He told daddy he was cute and needed a picture.

The many tracks a car can make

Avery loves cars and he loves painting so I decided to combine the two. We dipped the tires in paint and then drove them around the paper. Avery even added the necessary sound effects.
