We've bought the farm!

Okay, so maybe we didn't buy the farm- just a portion of the crop. Scott and I signed up for a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) in Sun Prairie. This summer we will be able to enjoy lots of great fruits and veggies and all I have to do is stop by the farm and pick them up every other week. What a great way to eat well and support local agriculture!

Our official snow totals

Yay! The snow has finally come and we enjoyed playing in it. Our official snow measuring scale says we accumulated over 10 inches in two days. Currently it is raining/snowing so more is on the way.

Here is our official measuring stick. Avery is standing in the snow to show how much snow we've gotten so far.

Where's Avery? Here I am!

Thank goodness for neighbors! Our neighbor brought his snow blower over and helped while his 10 year old son helped Scott and I shovel out.

Not many places to put anymore snow. It is still snowing as I type.

Not our Mother's cloth diapers!

Well, I finally did it, I switched to cloth. I had been debating cloth before Avery was born and I finally made the leap. For one, cloth saves a lot of money over the time Avery is in diapers. Second, the impact the diapers make on the environment is awful. For this alone, I was willing to give cloth a try. Just for your information: 18-23 billion diapers went into landfills last year in America alone. Those diapers take 500 years to decompose! Because of those two factors, I decided I should make the switch. I can say I am quite pleased! I found this company that makes a pocket diaper called Fuzzi Bunz. It is an all in one diaper that has snaps and is so easy to use. The laundry isn't even that big of a deal. Every other day I throw his diapers into a rinse cycle and then I wash them. A bleach pail for soaking isn't even needed anymore! Thanks for reading this post. If you know anyone considering cloth- pass this along.

Flat Stanley

Look who came in the mail today! Gaven's second grade class is doing a Flat Stanley project and Gaven chose to have Stanley visit us. We've already taken him on some fun adventures. Stay tuned for more Stanley pictures as we continue exploring the area.

DULUTH!

This weekend we braved a long car ride with Avery and headed to Duluth to see Laura for her birthday and hang out with friends. I was nervous about the car ride because Avery usually has a hard time in the car at night. We decided to pack up and leave at his bedtime to see if he would sleep the whole way and he did! I can't say I like driving five hours that late at night, but to have a peaceful baby in the car is all worth it. We really enjoyed seeing family and friends in Duluth. We had a great game night at the Bums and the girls won! The boys even had to cheat to keep up with our brains and they still lost. Who cares if we don't know how much a ton is? We have great friends in Duluth and we miss them! Saturday was spent with the Davis Family- always a great time. We enjoyed a small walk in the woods which was nice because most of the trails around Madison aren't woods but fields. The drive home also went well, but we didn't get a very nice welcome upon returning home. Our furnace must have gone out on Friday sometime and the temperature in the house was 42 degrees! Our plants and ferrets weren't very happy. But don't worry, a guy came out at 2 am to fix the problem. He simply took a piece of sandpaper and scraped carbon off a piece of metal. That's the most we've ever had to pay for a piece of sandpaper! Oh, well at least I am typing this in a warm house while Avery sleeps peacefully.

A Glimpse of a social life

This weekend was a busy one and I would have to admit that I loved it! Now that Avery is almost 7 months, he is able to do more things. We started the weekend by having Gaven over to spend the night. Avery loved having his cousin around and laughed at him constantly. I loved having someone entertain Avery! On Saturday we went to our first playgroup. It was fun meeting people in the Madison area. The fun part was having 8 babies all under 8 months "playing" together. Avery was pretty quiet and didn't interact much, but I'm sure he will over time. On Sunday, we went to church and Avery went to the nursery. It was the first time he was by himself and I was a nervous wreck! I don't think I heard much of the message today. Tonight we topped off the weekend at a SuperBowl party. It was fun being out past 7 pm. Avery missed his bedtime and he did just fine. I'm so happy that we can do more things now that he is getting a little older. I know we did a lot when he was little, but they were only short bursts because he needed to eat every hour and sleep after he ate! The best part of all of this is that Avery is a part of it. I love bringing him places and watching how he interacts with people. It is cool to see the world through his eyes.

String Bean

My little string bean! I love this sleeper because it makes him look so long and skinny, perhaps even a bit beany. : )
