Play set fun

See the hammock behind the spoon? This hammock came with the house when we moved in and recently caused us a lot of work. The hammock started to get nasty and we decided it was time for it to go. When we took it down we noticed that the tree it was attached to was dead so we decided that we should cut it down.

We have a small yard but without that tree we now would have a small open area. Our neighbor has a small play house that the kids love. We decided that we could build a small playhouse for the kids in that spot. Then we got the chainsaw out and one tree turned into three big ones and 4 small ones. As the trees fell our yard grew and grew. After the trees were down we decided that we could build a bigger playhouse. Then we started upping the project. Before we knew it we decided to build a 20' long raised deck with a slide, swing, and trapeze bar. We now had the space but it was on a steep hill. The solution to this was simple.

Dirt!

This pile would fill in our yard to level the yard for the new play structure. The kids loved this dirt pile. They played in this pile all day for days.

It was so fun watching them create and play in nothing but dirt.

By the end of the night they were covered head to toe in mud, totally exhausted and happy.

Back to the play set. We only had a single wheel barrow and it was a bit intimidating but we moved the whole pile to the back yard in one full day of fun. Once the area was leveled we started the building. Everyone enjoyed helping in the building of the structure. It was a fun family project.

Brandee was the saw queen.

Avery was ecstatic to be my big helper. He was stuck to my side the entire time. He made sure I never ran out of screws, wood, or tools. He really liked being up on the platform helping me because he was 'big' and could be safe without railing.

After two weeks of hard work we ended up with this.

This is the first phase of the project. It started to get too hot so we decided to finish the rest in the fall. Phase two will be to add the clubhouse.

No play set is complete without a captains wheel.

Of course we had to incorporate a climbing wall.

Julia, we loved to help you build/create your own structure! Annetta, is that all it took to lure you down here?
