Georgian Fall

For Brandee's birthday we always go somewhere rather than giving presents. After last years camping disaster we put off camping for a year and decided to stay closer to home and thought it was time to explore Georgia a bit more. We have always seen these photos of an amazing looking suspension bridge in Tallulah Falls. Since we really haven't explored much of north Georgia we decided that Tallulah Falls would be our first stop.

When we arrived the first thing we noticed was all of the people. It was a little reminiscent of our trip to Niagara Falls. There were lots of foreigners with cameras running about. We set out to find that amazing suspension bridge. We walked down a rubberized trail for about 5 min and came to an overlook filled with hundreds of people. This was the top of the 1100 stairs to the bottom. We took off and in no time we were at the bridge. It was pretty cool but some how I feel that the photo we saw was photo shopped to look 3x as long. Very cool regardless.

We hiked to a couple more overlooks but decided it was time to head out. On the way to our hotel we were keeping our eyes open for a dinner place when we saw a huge billboard that only said GOATS. We immediately pulled a u-turn and headed back. We came to one of the strangest places ever. It was called goats on the roof. Yep, that was about it. They had a small gift shop and the whole place had a grass roof with goats on it. We fed them and left.

You could put food in a cup and then peddle the bike to bring it up to the goats. I think Avery could have spent the whole day here. He would find one small pellet on the ground and send it up the the goats. He must have done this a dozen times and we literally had to pull him away from the bike.

We made it about a mile and saw this parking lot full of cars. They were all parked at a small place called Oinkers. We decided that if in the middle of nowhere there could be more than 10 cars at any one place it had to be good. We were not disappointed. This was one of the local mom and pop hautes. Ok, not really. It was an 80's style cafeteria that reminded me of the VFW's I've been to. I loved it though because the kids were right at home and it was good and cheap. I had a whole bbq sandwich plate for $3.00 and it was amazing. All 4 of us ate for $17 including desserts.

The next day we decided to explore a bit. A chatty guy at breakfast suggested that we visit Black Rock Mountain, so we did. It was awesome and we are planning a camping trip there sometime soon. Then after a little sightseeing we headed to Helen, GA. Helen is the epitome of tourist traps. It was a cute German styled town. It was fun but here was our favorite part of Helen.

We liked the GA mountains and decided that we need to explore them more. This trip showed us how much there is to explore and I'm excited to find more special places.
